For a number of years several club members used to organise a special event station on the top of Pen y Ghent, one of the three peaks of Yorkshire which involved carrying car batteries, rigs and aerials to a height of 2,300 feet asl. The call sign was GB2PYG and many stations were worked each year.
An outdoor centre belonging to a school in Batley was hired for the weekend, and most people stayed for the whole weekend, with some travelling up for the day,
